SURF CITY, N.C. (WITN) – A record-breaking total of 27 sea turtles will be released at a rehabilitation center along our coast.

The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Center says 26 green sea turtles and one Kemp’s ridley turtle.

Thursday’s release will be open to the public and will be live on their Facebook or Instagram page.

It starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Broadway Street Beach Access (#5).

The center has had 144 sea turtles so far this year, the most its cared for in any year, according to a news release.
