BIG ROCK: After 3 blue marlin fail to qualify, ‘Pipe Down’ hopes to weigh a winner at 7:00

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) – An exciting final day of fishing at the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament is also seeing several disappointments.

The third blue marlin to be weighed, this one from ‘Full Cry,’ did not qualify at 320 lbs.

‘A-Salt-Weapon’ brought in the second blue marlin of the day that didn’t qualify at 387.6 lbs.

‘Wasabi’ was the first in of the day and brought in a blue marlin that also did not meet the tournament minimum of 400 lbs.

‘Pipe Down’ has boated a blue marlin and is due in at 7 p.m.

On Friday, 14 blue marlins and 3 white marlins were released and 115 out of the 302 boats fished.

Boats can only fish for four of the six days of the tournament and 186 boats chose to stay put today.

The National Weather Service said boaters were facing 3 to 5-foot waves and winds blowing from the North East at 5 to 15 mph, along with the chance of showers and isolated storms today.

Thursday was the third day in a row that no marlins were caught, and the standings haven’t changed since Monday.

‘Game Time’ remains at the top of the leaderboard with a 516-pound catch on Monday.

If their lead holds until Saturday they will take home more than $1.8 million.

In second place is ‘Release’ with their 504-pound catch, also on Monday. That catch being the first over 500 pounds, won over $1.7 million in the Fabulous Fisherman category.

This is the 66th year for Big Rock, which lasts until Saturday.
