BIG ROCK: ‘A-Salt-Weapon’ and ‘Wasabi’ boated a blue marlin

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) – The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament is wrapping up on its last day on Saturday, ‘A-Salt-Weapon’ and ‘Wasabi’ boated a blue Marlin.

WITN is following the story and the ETA for both boats to return to The Big Rock Landing and the weights of the blue marlin will be released as soon as the information becomes available.

Friday, on day 5, 14 blue marlin and 3 white marlin were released and 115 out of the 302 boats fished.

Day 5 was a bummer as no blue marlins were caught on the next to the last day of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament.

Boats can only fish for four of the six days of the tournament and 186 boats chose to stay put today.

The National Weather Service said boaters were facing 3 to 5-foot waves and winds blowing from the North East at 5 to 15 mph, along with the chance of showers and isolated storms today.

Thursday was the third day in a row that no marlins were caught, and the standings haven’t changed since Monday.

‘Game Time’ remains at the top of the leaderboard with a 516-pound catch on Monday.

If their lead holds until Saturday they will take home more than $1.8 million.

In second place is ‘Release’ with their 504-pound catch, also on Monday. That catch being the first over 500 pounds, won over $1.7 million in the Fabulous Fisherman category.

This is the 66th year for Big Rock, which lasts until Saturday.
