Beaufort County names new economic development director

WASHINGTON, N.C. (WITN) – A county here in the east has named a new economic development director after its previous director passed away.

Susan Squires has been named the new Beaufort County economic development director, according to the county in a news release. Squires had been serving as interim director after the former director, Brad Hufford, died.

The county said they chose Squires for her over thirty years of federal and local government work experience. She has worked with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, is certified by the state in economic development, and is an Air Force Veteran.

“We are very pleased to have Sue in the permanent role of county economic development director. She has done an amazing job of leading the department during her time as the interim director,” said County Manager Brian Alligood. “We look forward to her continued leadership and the positive impact she will undoubtedly bring to future economic development endeavors.”

She began her duties on Monday.
