Beaufort County bridge closes Tuesday for construction

BEAUFORT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Drivers in one Eastern Carolina county will be facing a detour for weeks starting Tuesday.

One section of the bridge on N.C. 92 spanning Bath Creek will be replaced soon.

The highway will close to traffic Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.

During construction, crews will replace the center bridge span, which has corroded.

Officials say the highway is anticipated to reopen prior to Memorial Day weekend.

Signs will be posted, alerting drivers to the closure and to follow a detour onto U.S. 264, Boyd Road, Post Road, and Jackson Swamp Road to avoid the construction.
