Baby found dead in car seat after being left in hot car, police say

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WDTV/Gray News) – Authorities in West Virginia say a baby was found dead in a vehicle Wednesday afternoon after they were left in a hot car.

The Morgantown Police Department responded to Young Hearts day care at about 4 p.m. regarding a reported cardiac arrest.

Officers said they found a baby in a rear-facing car seat in the backseat of an SUV when they arrived.

However, emergency medical crews advised the offices that the baby had already died.

Police said it’s currently unknown how long the child was left in the vehicle as the situation remains under investigation.

Authorities did not announce any immediate charges or any arrests in the case.

“The department wishes to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends that have been directly impacted by this tragic loss as well as recognizing the devastating impact such a loss is to the community,” Morgantown Police Department Chief Eric Powell said.

Morgantown detectives said they are also working with the state medical examiner’s office regarding the investigation.
