Authorities looking for 2013-17 VW CC in Atlantic Beach unsolved murder

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. (WITN) – Investigators say they are now looking for a specific type car in an unsolved murder on the Crystal Coast.

Randy Miller, of Apex, was stabbed to death in 2022 on West Atlantic Boulevard in Atlantic Beach.

Police say three men were breaking into vehicles early on August 29th, 2022 and one of them attacked Miller.

Last year, police released video of what looked like a silver car that was connected to the case.

SBI Assistant Special Agent Nick Deming said they sent that video to the FBI which was able to narrow down exactly what kind of vehicle it was. Deming says they are now looking for a 2013 to 2017 Volkwagen CC, which is either silver or a light color.

WITN previously reported that Miller was outside getting his boat ready to go fishing with another person inside at the time. The autopsy says the victim was standing in front of the garage when “a person in a black hoodie came and stabbed him.”

Miller, 65, of Apex, was found lying in the driveway. He was taken to Carteret Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The autopsy also revealed Miller was killed by a six-inch deep knife wound that went through the left 6th rib and into his heart.

The ABPD’s investigation into Miller’s murder is ongoing, and they are offering a reward of up to $55,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
