Attendees celebrate Mother’s Day at 2024 Cherry Point Air Show

CHERRY POINT, N.C. (WITN) – Families and friends celebrated this Mother’s Day looking up at the sky in awe at the Cherry Point Air Show.

Day two of the Cherry Point Air Show was in full swing Sunday. Thousands came out to enjoy the mesmerizing displays in the air and on the ground.

“This was actually a surprise for Mother’s Day,” Attendee Amanda Drangula said. “My husband bought the tickets and I looked at the date and realized it was for Mother’s Day”

Performances ranging from the Steve Covington, to the F-35B, to New Bern native Hubie Tolson’s last public air show, were all sights to see in the clear skies with the big finale of the day being the Blue Angels.

“The Blue Angels fly high,” Attendee Kevin Steele said. “They’re amazing.”

“I’ve been a big Blue Angels fan since I was younger,” Drangula said.

While the air show aims to entertain, people of all ages may get inspired when they look up and see the aviators take flight.

“Patriotism, that’s what it’s all about,” Attendee Dwight Myers said. “This is why we got freedom right here.”

The AV-8B Harrier was a standout as it made its last performance before retiring. Many people said they were glad to be there as it went out in style.

According to Cherry Point Commanding Officer Col. Brendan Burks, about 50,000 people were in attendance Sunday.
