The storm took off half of a roof at a group home on Bland School Road outside of Harrells.

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – At least two homes were heavily damaged when a tornado this afternoon struck a neighborhood in Sampson County.

The storm took off half of a roof at a group home on Bland School Road outside of Harrells.

The owner said fortunately no one was home at the time.

The tornado damaged another home across the highway, peeling off part of the roof.

A nine-year-old was inside this home when the tornado hit.

A 9-year-old boy was inside that home at the time. “Thunder and lightning and lots and lots of heavy rain,” the child told a reporter.

Landan said he grew up in the house. “I’m pretty sad about it, But other than that I am fine. The house…ain’t looking so good.”

Multiple trees in the neighborhood were snapped and brought down by the storm.

Sampson County says emergency services staff are assessing the damage, but so far there have been no reports of any injuries.
