Assistant EMS chief/paramedic critically burned in weekend accident

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina first responder is in critical condition at a Norfolk burn center after an accident this past weekend.

Chad Bullock is at the Sentara Norfolk General Burn Center with second-degree burns over 50% of his body, according to a GoFundMe page.

Bullock, who lives in Greenville, is the assistant EMS chief at Bell Arthur and a full-time paramedic with Beaufort County EMS.

The fundraising page says Bullock was clearing/burning brush on his property when he was burned.

The accident happened around noon Saturday in the Mesic community of Pamlico County. Fire Marshal Chris Murray says Bullock was using flammable liquids to help in lighting the fire when he was burned.

The fundraising page says Bullock will be hospitalized for the next four months. It says he has been a paramedic for 12 years and has worked for EMS for the last 14 years.

Pitt County originally told us Bullock was an assistant fire chief at Bell Arthur and a full-time paramedic in Beaufort County. The story has been updated to say he is an assistant EMS chief at Bell Arthur.
