Arrest made in Rocky Mount convenience store robberies

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WITN) – Rocky Mount police say that they have made an arrest in a string of three convenience store robberies that happened over the last week.

According to police in Rocky Mount, 63-year-old Duane James was arrested on February 20th for robberies that happened at the Circle K on Sunset Avenue on February 16, the Circle K on Wesleyan Boulevard on February 17, and the Speedway store on Wesleyan Boulevard on February 19th.

Police say that James has a history of armed robbery convictions in Maryland dating back to 1996 and a federal Hobbs Act conviction for an armed robbery in 2013.

According to police, James was released from federal prison in December 2020.

James was charged with three counts of Robbery with a dangerous weapon and is being held without bond in the Nash County Jail.
