Arrest made in early June Goldsboro murder

GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WITN) – Police say an 18-year-old who was shot earlier this month has been arrested for murder.

The Goldsboro Police Department says Tysher Davis has been charged with an open count of murder in the death of Vorteryahj Sanders.

On June 5, police responded to reports of shots fired in the 1600 block of South John Street.

Officers say Davis was found with a gunshot wound and was taken to to UNC Health Wayne for treatment before being transferred to ECU Health in Greenville.

While at that shooting, there was another call about an unresponsive person in the 300 block of Hollowell Street.

Officers say Sanders was found inside a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound, according to police.

The 21-year-old man was pronounced dead.

Police say after an investigation, Davis was charged with an open count of murder.

According to police, the two knew each other and believe they were in a fight before the shooting.

The 18-year-old turned himself in this afternoon around 4:30.

He’s being held in the Wayne County Detention Center under no bond.

His first appearance is set for Monday.
