EDGECOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Deputies in Edgecombe County have arrested a Rocky Mount man that they say is responsible for a murder that happened three years ago.

According to deputies 39-year-old Joseph Lyons, Jr. was arrested Friday during a traffic stop in Rocky Mount in connection with the June 1, 2021, murder of Harold Gamble on Jabez Court.

Edgecombe County Sheriff Clee Atkinson said in a release that the detective division had been working on the case for three years and that just because it may take several years to close a case it is never forgotten.

Lyons was charged with first degree murder and was taken to the Edgecombe County Jail where he is being held without bond.
