Army offering $50k reward for information in 2020 murder of specialist

CAPE LOOKOUT, N.C. (WITN) – The Army is hoping a several thousand dollar reward will help solve the murder of specialist in 2020.

The Army’s criminal investigation division is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of those responsible for the death of Spc. Enrique Roman-Martinez.

Investigators said Martinez was camping May 22nd with other soldiers at Cape Lookout over the Memorial Day weekend when the 21-year-old disappeared.

The specialist was reported missing the next evening. Only his phone, wallet, and glasses were found at the campsite and he was last seen wearing blue shorts and no shirt.

Six days later remains of the soldier were found on a beach at Shackelford Banks.

An autopsy showed there were “multiple chop injuries with the transection of the neck and cervical spine” and that his death was “homicide by undetermined means.”

If you have information about this case, call 910-391-4911. The Army says that options will be shared if the person wants to remain anonymous.
