AP: North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson wins Republican nomination for governor

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson has won his party’s primary for governor. Robinson defeated State Treasurer Dale Folwell and trial attorney Bill Graham to win the GOP nomination.

Robinson would be the state’s first Black governor if elected. His only elected job in politics has been that of lieutenant governor, which he won in 2020 on the heels of his viral video in favor of gun rights.

Robinson has been criticized for attacking efforts to teach LGBTQ+ issues in sex education, denying climate change, and calling for further restrictions on abortion, among other topics. Robinson has Donald Trump’s endorsement.
