Activists want charges dropped against Greenville George Floyd protestor

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Protestors outside the Pitt County Courthouse Tuesday morning called for charges to be dropped against a Greenville man who was arrested during the George Floyd protests.

Matthew Roberts, who also goes by Dedan Wacuiri, was one of seven people arrested by Greenville police in June 2020 after the uptown march turned violent.

Roberts was charged with inciting a riot, and injury to property and was scheduled to be in court this morning.

Several dozen supporters protested on the steps of the courthouse asking that his charges be dismissed.

The case against Roberts was continued until February.
