AccessEast hosts Medicaid enrollment event

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Another event designed to offer free expert assistance in enrolling in N.C. Medicaid health coverage happened today in one city in the East.

Medicaid expansion passed in North Carolina on December 1st last year. This raised the original income amount residents needed, to meet with financial counselors at the ECU Health central billing office, who help enroll them in Medicaid health plans.

Medicaid, according to the NC Department of Health and Human Services, is a health insurance program for low-income individuals and families who can not afford health care costs.

According to AccessEast Community Coordinator, ReGina Moffett, they hold this event for uninsured people to enroll in Medicaid.

“Oh there are so many people here that are needing this and I think a lot of times people have a misunderstanding of the whole process altogether so again I feel this is truly needed in our area and all throughout eastern North Carolina,” Moffett said.

There is an income requirement but if you make over a certain amount and find that you are not eligible for Medicaid, AccessEast can still help sign you up for programs like the Affordable Care Act.

If you missed the event today, there will be one in Edgecombe county next month.
