NAGS HEAD, N.C. (WITN) -The U.S. Coast Guard says a 70-year-old man who was floating in Roanoke Sound was rescued Monday evening near Nags Head.

A family member told the Coast Guard that the man was sailing on an inflatable boat.

A rescue boat from Nags Head Fire Rescue found the man west of Jockey Ridge State Park.

They spotted his lifejacket, which the Coast Guard says probably saved his life.

The man was taken to the Outer Banks Hospital with severe hypothermia.

The inflatable boat was found capsized in the middle of the sound.
